The Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs

The Chancellor's Scholarship Program and Powers-Knapp Scholarships Program are merit-based, campus-wide scholarship programs for academically outstanding and talented young people from historically underrepresented backgrounds (African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Southeast Asian, or socioeconomically disdvantaged). A faculty/staff committee carefully reviews each application and selects scholars on the basis of their demonstrated academic success in high school, involvement in school/community organizations, leadership skills, and ability to excel in the university's rigorous educational environment.  The Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs are committed to assisting scholars in their pursuit of personal and academic excellence during their undergraduate careers.

Application Information

Apply for the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs online by using your campus NetID and password to log into the Scholarships@UW application portal and answer all the questions in the 'Match Scholarships' section to find currently available applications. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application even if they have not yet been admitted to UW-Madison.

 

For PRIORITY CONSIDERATION, application for the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs will open on September 29, 2017 and close November 15, 2017 at 11:59 PM Central Time


For REGULAR CONSIDERATION, application for the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs will open on December 15, 2017 and close February 1, 2018 at 11:59 PM Central Time.


Note: One application ensures consideration for both scholarship programs.

The Chancellor's Scholarship Program and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Program are merit-based, campus-wide scholarships awarded to academically outstanding and talented young people pursuing all majors. The Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs are committed to assisting scholars in their pursuit of personal and academic excellence during their undergraduate careers.
<ul> <li> Applicants must plan to enroll as a new freshman in the fall following graduation from high school</li> <li> Be a member of one of the following groups:</li> <ol> <li> African American</li> <li> American Indian</li> <li> Hispanic/Latino</li> <li> Southeast Asian (Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, or Vietnamese)</li> <li> Socioeconomically disadvantaged</li> </ol> <li> Demonstrate outstanding academic performance (3.0/4.0 GPA or higher in academic units)</li> <li> Be a U.S. citizen</li> </ul> A faculty/staff committee carefully reviews each eligible application and selects scholars on the basis of their demonstrated academic success in high school, involvement in school/community organizations, leadership skills, and abilities to excel in the university's rigorous educational environment.
